He has taught journalism in Australia, New Zealand, England, Hong Kong and the United States. Between 1977 and 1990 Stephen worked full time as a sub-editor and editor in New Zealand, Australia, Thailand and England, after his initial training as a reporter at the Newcastle Herald in Australia. He continues to maintain currency while teaching by working as a casual sub-editor. Stephen is the author of Newsgathering on the Net, second edition (Macmillan), The Art of Learning (Deakin University Press) and has contributed to Journalism: Theory and Practice (Macleay Press).
